The Jeep Cherokee was manufactured from 1974-2001. Originally built as the Cherokee SJ, a two door vehicle, a four door model was added in 1977. Trim packages for the Cherokee included the S (Sport), Chief, Golden Eagle, Limited, Classic, Pioneer, and Laredo. Cherokee engines available were the AMC I6 and V8. The Jeep Cherokee was the first vehicle to earn Four Wheeler Magazine's Achievement Award.
The Jeep Cherokee XJ was introduced in 1984 as the first unibody Jeep. This meant the Cherokee body was integrated into a single unit with the chassis. Fourteen years after it debuted, the Cherokee received updated exterior and interior styling. The front and rear ends were smoothed out and the interior saw reduction in noise, vibration and harshness levels. After 27 years, the Jeep Cherokee saw its production run end in 2001.
