The Borg Warner T98/T98A used in Jeep models 1955 to 1972, and can be identified by a case length of 11 7/8" and a case casting number of T98A. It is a heavy duty transmission with tower shift and iron case and cover. The T98A and T18 are easily confused because they are externally identical. Differences in the T18, the T98 has a 6.40 first gear, a bronze bushing under third gear, loose rollers under second gear and less main drive pilot bearings. Because of the T98's low first gear, length, durability and easy adaptability, it is very popular with rock crawlers and anyone wanting a good dependable transmission.
