The Jeep Factory Soft Top Hardware on the Jeep Wrangler YJ from 1987 to 1995 is characterized by two rear upper frame sections that pivot at two separate lower points. They are connected to each other by “spreader” bars which “spread” open from a “V” shape to a straight line as they increase tension to the soft top. When fully expanded, the frame sections are basically straight up and down and parallel to each other. Also note, the fabric soft top attaches to the factory style rails above the doors using “snap” type fasteners.

Bestop Soft Top Hardware for the Jeep Wrangler YJ from 1987 to 1995 is characterized by the rear upper frame sections forming a distinctive “Y” shape. The difference between Bestop Supertop and Sunrider hardware is in the front section. On the Supertop, the framing above the doors is solid. The very front of the Supertop fabric is attached to a channel secured to the top of the windshield frame.
