These engines are highly effective, have incredibly durable designs, and are a key depended on by the manufacturer. There was an extremely large variety of engines produced in this time period as power plant and automotive technology developed fast. Chrysler V-8 5.2 (318) 5.9 (360) engines were contemporary, relatively efficient, and extremely flexible designs that became known about Chrysler's cars and trucks for many years - a fact which would probably have shocked their designers with the slow rate of engine development at that particular time period. A large difference of engine variations were being manufactured in the 1950s and 1960s, flattened out in time so that the 318 and 360 cubic inch sizes stayed the same for over thirty years each. The original design is still used today, in the 505 cubic inch Viper V-10, although the V8 and V6 assortments have finally been outdone (they lasted into the 21st century!)
