The CJ8 Scrambler, first built by American Motors Company in 1981, was a stretched CJ7 with a short top and pickup truck bed. The CJ-8 was manufactured in hard or soft-top models. By the time it was replaced by the Jeep Comanche, 27,792 CJ8’s had been built.
The CJ8 Scrambler came with a standard 5 speed manual transmission or an optional 3 speed automatic transmission. The standard engine for the CJ8 was the 82 hp 4 cylinder 151 cubic inch engine, with an optional 110 hp 6 cylinder 258 cubic inch engine.
The Scrambler was offered in three different trim packages: Standard, SL Sport (Laredo), SR Sport (Renegade). The CJ8 Scrambler shares many of the characteristics of the CJ7 except that it is about 24 inches longer.
