The CJ5, introduced in 1954, had a 30 year production run; the longest of any Jeep vehicle. Based on the Korean War M-38A1, 603,303 CJ5's were produced between 1954 and 1984. Originally manufactured with an F-head 4 cylinder Perkins Diesel, the CJ5 received an upgrade in 1965 to a Buick 225 CID V6 Dauntless, making the CJ5 the first Jeep to receive a V6 engine.
By 1971 two trim packages were available for the CJ5: the Renegade I and Renegade II. The wheelbase on the CJ5 was 81 inches from 1954-1971 and 83.5 inches from 1972-1984. Constant improvements in engines, axles, transmissions and seating made the CJ5 the ideal vehicle for off-road activities.
